The spit stains the body red
sugar melts through her.

Interview with Emilia Pennanen, March 2014

Interview about my work with MICA, reviewed:

MF: Has anything specifically inspired you to see things this way?

EP: When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a boy for some time, for personal reasons and because deep down I thought that men are better off in the world… I got over this and started to think of myself more femininely, at the same time as I was making music in a band with my friend. We got interviewed by a magazine, and when we met up with the interview guy he was a pig right away, asking obnoxious questions like “whose dick did you girls have to suck to put out this record?” And I had a realization that wow… women’s looks and sex for male pleasure are more important than their talent or thinking for themselves. People pretend we are in a post-feminist world and we have overcome gender inequality. I think it’s completely wrong, and this is a great point in time for everyone to go against patriarchy. I want to make art that matters to me and should matter to the viewer.
